Bio
As Chief Strategy Officer at R/GA, William unites a unique combination of strategic thinking and business innovation for the agency. Since joining R/GA in January 2010, he has been involved in many successful client initiatives, including developing IBM’s fortune-changing e-business campaign and defining the strategy that took Compaq to global brand leadership. In this role, William is also leading the creation of an international agency network model that enhances creativity and inspired work, ensuring that each of R/GA’s international offices develop individual strategic expertise inspired by their respective geographies.
Before joining R/GA, William was the co-head of strategy at JWT New York, where he significantly expanded the strategy group and was responsible for developing several landmark advertising solutions for brands such as HSBC, Johnson & Johnson, JetBlue, Cadbury, and Domino’s. He also pioneered a strategic innovation group that partnered with venture capitalists to identify opportunities for entrepreneurs to work with global brands.
William pursues innovation in the communications industry and business at large. He restructured the Jay Chiat Award for Strategic Excellence (which he has chaired for the past six years) and advises various organizations including the United Nations, U.S. Marine Corps War College, Acumen Fund, and IfWeRantheWorld.com. He sits on the 4A’s Planning Committee and is helping with the development of a new conference celebrating strategic thought leadership. William’s writing and research have been published in a variety of publications from Adweek and Advertising Age to Market Leader and The Wall Street Journal, and his published work has twice been recognized in WPP’s Atticus Awards for original thinking.
