As Executive Creative Director of R/GA Tokyo, Masaya is responsible for for leading the creative vision for R/GA Tokyo and driving transformational work across its agency roster. Prior to his current role, he was most recently the long-standing Executive Creative Director at AKQA London for 16 years, leading work for some of the agency’s biggest clients including Forevermark, VSCO, Ford, Bvlgari, Verizon, Kotex, Muji, and most notably, a global suite of Nike cross categories such as The Olympics, Global Nike Women, Nike Training Club, Nike Run Club and more. Over the years, he’s been highly awarded at international award shows including Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, CLIO, LIA, Eurobest and more.
Having started his career in design and coding, his strengths and interests remain firmly rooted in discovering and exploiting new platforms of communication. When technology with the potential to radically change human behaviour is first introduced, how can humans creatively interact with this and enable communication to adapt and evolve? Once established, to what extent can we further hack the medium to produce something conceptually meaningful and refreshingly unique? These are some fundamental issues that he constantly strives to resolve.
