Naru is Group Account Director for R/GA in its fast-growing Tokyo office. He entered R/GA from its inception in Japan in 2017 playing a pivotal role in spearheading the office's strategic growth and award-winning campaigns. As Group Account Director, Naru leads integrated agency teams that are extensions of their client teams.
A believer in the power of collaboration, Naru functions like a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) by offering clients more than the sum of R/GA’s industry-leading human talent. He oversees innovative creative services for Japanese clients and strategically aligns the demands of a global client network for maximum effectiveness within the context of the local market.
A 14-year veteran of the industry, he started his career at Dentsu Group company, Dentsu Tec where he undertook web production, event development, creative services, and was tasked with oversight of integrating digital applications for world-class events. Naru made his mark on projects for high-profile events like Tokyo Marathon by utilizing technology to amplify engagement, raise awareness, and develop aspirational status. He won a series of hard-fought awards for his work at ADFEST, Spikes Asia, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
In seeking to elevate his award-winning experience and creative capabilities to the next level he entered R/GA as a senior producer immediately going beyond his job title by simultaneously taking on the roles of account and creative director. His all-encompassing leadership on accounts won acclaim for the Tokyo office resulting in a Clio Awards Gold Winner award for his work on Shiseido My Crayon Project.
On top of pioneering digital campaigns that challenge the interdisciplinary teams he manages to transform their respective categories, Naru implements R/GA’s signature style innovation as a strategic business partner to deliver client satisfaction. His dedication to flawless execution has positioned the firm to embark on the next stage of its evolution to realize products and services that prototype the future in Japan.
Naru graduated from Japan’s prestigious Keio University with a Masters of Science and Technology degree. He is a native of Iwate prefecture and an accomplished skier who enjoys camping with his family and a rigorous fitness training regimen.
