R/GA London Team Uses AI to Spread Holiday Cheer

Holiday greeting cards, written by AI, and illustrated by humans were created using a recurrent neural network (RNN).

London, December 13, 2019 – A multidisciplinary team of R/GA London creatives built Holid.ai, an AI designed to generate greeting cards and spread holiday cheer. The team fed the AI hundreds of traditional greetings, songs, and phrases to create festive new messages celebrating the season. They selected their favorite messages and designed cards based on their interpretation of the results.

“There are too many headlines out there heralding AI as the death of creativity, we think it’s just the beginning of a new era of creativity,” said Lachlan Williams, group strategy director, R/GA London. “What we wanted to do is to create something charming, warm and positive; a true collaboration between humans and machine.”

The finished designs are available for purchase on www.happyholid.ai, with all profits going to a UK-based charity Code Your Future, an organization that runs coding programs for refugees and disadvantaged people.
